Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, Type 2, Leningrad Mint "concave reverse"
version without mint mark, #105690, August 1944. Only a few dozen of
this exceptionally rare variation were made. The recipient, an ethnic Armenian
artilleryman NCO, earned the award in fighting in Pskov region near the Latvian
border. VF condition. Includes archival research.
Order of the Red Banner, Type 1, Var. 2, Sub-var. 3 ("Mirror Reverse"), #11609,
March 1940 issue to an artillery jr. lieutenant for storming the Mannerheim
Line during Winter War against Finland. . Wounded in action 3 times during the
Finnish campaign, the recipient later fought against the Finns and Germans in the
Patriotic War, was wounded again, and earned 2 more decorations. The order is in
fine unaltered condition, very respectable for the early "Mirror back" version.
Comes with archival research including a very uncommon commendation for the 1940
Order of the Red Banner.
Group of 4 Award Documents and Greetings to Hero of the Soviet Union including Document for a 62nd / 8th Guards Army Veteran Badge hand-
signed by Marshal Chuikov, 1960s-80s. The recipient, an Airborne Sergeant, earned the title of Hero in the battle of Kiev, which was catastrophic for the Red Army. He was among the first to become an HSU during the war.
Georgy Zhukov, Marshal of the Soviet Union, First Deputy to Stalin in WW2, typed document signed, 9 Dec. 1947, while Commander of the Odessa Military District and during the period of his virtual "internal exile" when Stalin sought to insure that Zhukov, four times Hero of the Soviet Union and recipient of two Orders of Victory, and other victorious Soviet WW2 generals would ever pose a threat to his hold on power. Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd cl, Type 2, early "Starback" variation
(Krasnokamsk Mint), #65161, Feb. 1944 issue to the Chief of Artillery of a rifle
regiment. During Operation Iskra ("Spark") which broke the siege of
Leningrad, he reconnoitered German positions and personally commanded one of the
squadrons, wiping out enemy weapon emplacements and personnel. A beautiful and
uncommon piece in VF / EXC condition; includes original silver screw plate. Comes
with archival research.
Military ID Card of a Military Medical Doctor, 1st cl. (equiv. rank of Colonel) of 55th Army, Leningrad Front, c. early 1942. The original owner, an ethnic Jew, served at the front for the entire duration of the war. Comes with a copy of his WW2 award commendations from the Russian archives. Missing the photo, otherwise in excellent condition.
