Order of Maternal Glory, 3rd cl, Variation 1, #21598, circa late 1944 - early 1945.

The medallion is in silver; the suspension device is in silver-plated brass and enamels. The medallion measures 40.1 mm in height and 30.9 mm in width, much wider than the later versions; weighs 20.1 g not including the suspension and connecting link. This is the earliest version of the order, without the mint mark and with counter-relief to the suspension device. Note the very low serial number. This piece is among the first bestowed immediately after the Order of Maternal Glory was instituted in December 1944, practically certain to be a WW2 issue.

In excellent condition,

In excellent condition, very uncommon for such an early issue. The enamel on the suspension shows beautiful luster and is completely free of the typical flaking or chips; there are just a few microscopic contact marks completely invisible to the naked eye. The details of the medallion are perfect and crisp; both the obverse and reverse show an attractive even patina to silver.

This scarce version of the otherwise common award is especially hard to find in as nice a condition and a serial number as low as the example offered here.
