Rare WW2 photo, VG/EXC condition. Main: Photo of a Group of Artillery Officers and Ten Enlisted Females, inscribed in Georgian or Armenian, dated 1943.

Measures 4 ¼" x 2 ¾", printed on textured semi-matte photo paper. A rare WW2 dated photo of an all-female group of enlisted with three male officers being, most likely, the unit commander, his deputy, and the political officer. The verso is inscribed in Georgian or Armenian.

In very good to excellent condition. There is a trace of a pen or pencil pressed into the obverse near the top left-hand corner, and a contact point on the forehead of one of the officers, not too obvious or detractive. The rest of the obverse shows a few minuscule wrinkles visible only when tilting the photo to reflect a bright light. The verso shows minor soiling. About half of the verso has a dark discoloration. However, the wear does not affect the inscription which is crisp, clear, and perfectly legible.

It's open for discussion and interesting research, but in our opinion, this is probably an anti-aircraft artillery unit, likely consisting of locally conscripted enlisted Georgian women, who fought during the Battle of the Caucasus. It is noteworthy that the officers are still wearing M36 uniforms, so the photo was apparently taken shortly before the issue of the M43 uniforms.

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
