In brass; measures 37.2 mm in height incl. eyelet, 32.1 mm wide; weighs 15.2 g without the suspension and connecting link.
Very fine to excellent condition. There are some minor dings and contact marks, mostly unnoticeable to the naked eye, while the raised details of the artwork and lettering are well-preserved and crisp. The medallion is completely free of nicks, edge knocks or significant scratches. There is an attractive even patina throughout - in contrast to many other examples of this medal that have a shiny appearance - while the original "gilt" mint luster is clear

There are no blemishes and only a few very minor oxidation spots on the reverse.
Comes on original aluminum suspension with nicely preserved old ribbon. A very attractive example overall.
Established in 1961, 20 years after the battle, this is the last of the Soviet WW2 campaign medals. Awarded to the survivors of the battle for
Kiev which was catastrophic for the Red Army (General Kirponos, commander of the Southwestern Front which defended the city, was killed in the
cauldron along with most of his staff.)
