Order of the Red Banner of Labor, Type 2 with engraved "Mondvor" mint mark, #10675, circa 1942.

Silver gilt, enamels. Measures 45.6 mm in height, 37.2 mm in width; weighs 38.1 g without the screw plate. Manufactured soon after much of the Leningrad Mint facilities and workers evacuated to the city of Krasnokamsk and set up a new mint there. In the manner typical of the early Krasnokamsk Mint manufacture, the order was assembled from the available parts which had not been completed earlier or were salvaged from specimens that previously had not passed the quality control. Note the repaired upper rivets and the fact that the banner is slightly misaligned with the back plate

Note the repaired upper rivets and the fact that the banner is slightly misaligned with the back plate. This somewhat "hodgepodge" construction is a perfectly normal trait of the early Krasnokamsk Red Banners of Labor. It was a necessary measure taken at the time when the mint had not yet started normal operations in Krasnokamsk but nevertheless was under pressure to somehow meet the production quota.

Unlike most other Krasnokamsk issues that had a standard "Monetnyi Dvor" mintmark, this piece has a hand-engraved mint mark - an extraordinarily rare case! Another feature that sets it apart from a majority of its Krasnokamsk contemporaries is that its serial number has not been altered.

Excellent, near mint condition. Enamel and gold plating are completely intact. Although as mentioned above the rivets on the reverse appear to indicate the reassembly of the banner and wreath part, we are certain that the banner and wreath are original to the badge. The screw post is of full length, over 11 mm measured from its base, and includes an original period silver screw plate.

An immensely rare and interesting piece, worthy of the most advanced collection.
