Large luxurious edition measuring 8 x 10", in beveled leatherette-wrapped hard cover with embossed ornamentation and title; 164 pp. of heavy-stock coated paper decorated with ornamental vignettes. Published by VOENIZDAT, the Publishing House of the Ministry of the Armed Forces of the USSR. Circulation unknown. The year of the publication is obviously tied with celebration of Stalin's 70th anniversary. The oval library stamp is that of the Kiev Higher Party School at the Central Committee of the CPSU. The book is tastefully decorated in the style of ancient epos volumes, handwritten by monks over months, if not years. Comes with the original peach-colored silk bookmark tape with a tassel. Complete with a list of translations of foreign, mostly Georgian, words that are only alliterated in Russian in the text.

In very good to excellent condition. The cover shows minor scuffs to the leatherette in all the usual places: corners, edges, and head and foot of the spine. However, they are not too obvious and not very intrusive to the eye. The slash-like indentation on the front cover at the spine is the most obvious item of wear, and not too detractive at that. The bookmark tape is intact, its color vibrant except for the very end before the tassel where it was exposed to light for a long period of time. The textblock is nearly pristine, showing an insignificant bump to the upper corner, and some mild soiling to the fore edge.

The content of this epic defies definition. And let's leave it at that. Let psychiatry of the future figure it out.
