Ten-Day Festival of Ukrainian Arts and Literature in Moscow, Medal (Badge) for Creative Achievements, 1951.
Brass, gilt, enamels; the pendant measures 32 mm in height incl. the eyelet, 28 mm in width. The overall height with suspension is approx. 44 mm. The writing in Russian on the red scroll says "For Creative Achievements". On the reverse is the raised inscription reading "To a Participant of the Ten Days of the Latvian Arts and Literature in Moscow, 1951, from the Ministry of Culture of the Union of SSR". A very nicely made badge typical of the early Khrushchev era.
The badge is in outstanding, excellent condition. The enamel is perfect and shows magnificent luster. The gilt finish is also well-preserved and bright. The pin attachment is fully functional.
This badge was issued to a member of a series of events showcasing Ukrainian culture, literature and arts in Moscow in 1951. The festival was called "dekada" in Russian. It resembles an English word which sometimes leads people to translate it incorrectly as Decade, but in fact it refers to a ten-day span of the festival. There were other "dekadas" held in the 50s for other Soviet republics, and there was a special badge issued for each of them.
Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
