Medal for Valor, Type 2, Variation 1, sub-variation with seamless, solid ring construction of the eyelet, #2464901, circa early 1945.

In silver, measures 43.0 mm in height, 37.4 mm wide; weighs 27.2 g. This scarce version of the Valor Medal features a seamless eyelet which is held to the medallion by a screw in addition to solder. It is very different to all the other wartime medals that have an eyelet made of a piece of wire with its ends soldered together at the point where the eyelet connects to the top of the medal (the seam is usually clearly visible from the reverse and on the inside of the eyelet).

The seamless eyelet sub-variation - referred to as "ввинченное ухо" ("vvinchennoye ukho") by the Russian speaking collectors - is found mostly in the roughly 2,420,000 - 2,540,000 serial number range. The temporary change in the eyelet design was probably due to the shortage of experienced workers who could do the more complicated soldering job required by the standard manufacturing process.

In fine to very fine condition. As is often the case, the lacquer in the letters is completely worn out. There are some mild knocks and dings to the edge, but no noticeable bumps. The raised details of the tank and airplanes are well preserved, although the medal shows minor dings and scratches on both sides. Comes on original suspension, a WW2 model in steel and brass with a self-locking pin. The ribbon is new. The connecting link appears to be original and its ends are soldered.
