Order of the October Revolution, Variation 2, #69276, circa early 1980s.
Silver gilt, 10 K gold (hammer and sickle emblem), and enamels; measures 44.0 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 43.4 mm in width; weighs 30.2 g not including the suspension and connecting link. This is a Variation 2 piece featuring five attachment rivets (as opposed to four rivets on Variation 1).
In outstanding, excellent condition. The enamel is literally perfect: not only is it completely free of wear visible to the naked eye, but also has none of even the tiniest contact marks or hairlines that could be found with a 10x loupe. The enamel on both the banner and star shows magnificent luster. The center medallion is likewise pristine; its details are perfect and exceptionally crisp. The rivets are perfectly tight. There is an exceptionally attractive dark patina to silver throughout; some of the fragile gilt finish on the starburst is still visible, although largely obscured by patina.
Comes on original suspension device, a two-layer model in aluminum. The old, probably original ribbon shows just a tiny amount wear and fading, while remaining sound, clean and attractive. The connecting link appears to be original, and its ends are still joined with solder in a seamless manner characteristic of the Soviet mint. Overall, this piece is a truly superb example of the second-highest Soviet decoration - nearly impossible to upgrade condition-wise.
