Order of the Red Star, Type 6, Variation 2 ("MZPP") without a mint mark, #1816307, circa early to mid-1945.

Silver, enamels; measures 46.5 mm tall x 48.3 mm wide; weighs 29.2 g not including the screw plate. In and of itself a relatively scarce version manufactured in 1945 at the Moscow Platinpribor Factory (MZPP), this specimen belongs to the first, smaller MZPP series with serial numbers 1792001 through 195000. Far more importantly, it lacks a mint mark - clearly a manufacturer's oversight which was not spotted by the usually vigilant quality control. Any Type 6 and especially MZPP specimens with such errors are exceptionally rare (although one other similar MZPP example w/o a mint mark and one with hand-engraved mint mark are shown on the website Mondvor.narod.ru).

Unlike some other specimens from the series, the bayonet of the soldier's rifle is of regular length, not "puncturing" the inner band of the medallion. The reverse is relatively flat, without a depression in its lower part. The serial number is engraved in a sloppy manner characteristic of the MZPP.

In very fine to excellent condition. The enamel shows an attractive luster and is free of chips, flaking or any other significant wear; there are only some tiny contact marks that are nearly invisible to the unaided eye. The center medallion has just a few minuscule dings and scratches; its raised details are nicely preserved, having only a very mild wear to the high points. There is a very attractive dark patina to silver on both sides. The screw post is of full or near full length, approx. 11 mm, and includes an original WW2 era screw plate.
