Military Archival Photo of Guards Medical Corps Captain Georgiy Kamladze (Гeoргий Васильевич Камладзе), а Decorated WW2 Veteran, 1948.

3 ¼" x 4 ¼", printed on glossy photo paper. The photo presents a Guards Medical Corps captain in field uniform wearing two orders of Red Star, and three medals: Victory over Germany, Liberation of Prague, and 30th anniversary of the Soviet Armed Forces, and a guards badge.

The handwritten military archival entry on the verso identifies the officer as Guards Captain Georgiy Kamladze (Геoргий Васильевич Камладзе), and bears the seal of Military Unit 1367 and hand signature of its chief of staff, Maj. Vokulenko. The certification is dated 19 April 1948.

The photo is in excellent condition. The paper is slightly wrinkled and shows impressions left by paper clips. The emulsion is unbroken, and any wear to it is so minor that it becomes visible only when the photo is tilted to reflect a bright light. The image is in sharp focus providing an excellent opportunity to study the details of decorations and uniform.

The first Order of the Red Star was awarded for Kamladze's performance in July 1944 during an offensive in western Ukraine (Lviv Region) when, in a field infirmary in the woods, he performed about 300 surgeries for three days and nights non-stop.

The second Order of the Red Star was awarded for similar heroic performance in January 1945 in Poland which saved lives of over 150 wounded troops.

Research: b/w photocopies of the award commendations for the Orders of the Red Star.

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
