Group Photo of Soviet Army Servicemen, dated January 1944.

5" x 3 ½", printed on semi-gloss photo paper. The obverse presents a large group of Soviet Army servicemen, mostly officers, posing in the backyard of a large building. The verso has a dedication, handwritten in pencil: "To Major Ru[?]v (illegible middle of the name), January 1944."

In very good condition. The paper is slightly wrinkled, mostly along the edges. The lower right-hand corner is missing the tip, the upper right-hand corner is slightly creased. However, the emulsion is unbroken and shows no scuffing or staining even when tilting the photo to reflect a bright light.

Where was this photo taken? Nice looking buildings, no snow on the ground. In January 1944, the First Ukrainian Front entered Poland. Could that photo be taken somewhere there? And how many more places on how many more photos will forever remain anonymous? A fine conversational point for a collector of WW2 memorabilia!

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
