M 1898/30 Mosin-Nagant socket bayonet with retaining mechanism, late 1930s - 1945 issue.
Shows stamped Arsenal mark near the base of the
blade.
In very good unissued condition; retains well over 90% of its original blueing. There is only a minor amount of surface rust on the base of the blade, not too detractive.
Standard weapon of Soviet WW2 infantryman, and often the only one in the hands of the Soviet Infantryman in Stalingrad. Although automatic and semiautomatic weapons were phased into the Soviet Army by this time, the average man still carried the Mosin-Nagant. Notoriously ill-supplied with bullets, his rifle quickly became useless except as a handle for this bayonet.
