Excellent Artilleryman Badge, by the Pobeda Factory, circa mid- to late-1940s.

Brass, enamels. Measures 45.5 mm x 36.9 mm; weighs 17.9 g without the screw plate. This is one of the relatively early Pobeda Factory variations. It features extended lower portion of the shield, very short gun barrels (approx. 20 mm) and slightly domed center medallion. The ornament above the medallion has five scrolls and well-defined top border. There is a star pattern under the red enamel on the center medallion and a pattern of vertical dashes in the lower portion. Note the off-center location of the screw post.

Very fine to excellent condition. The enamel is very well preserved and shows attractive luster, although there is minimal surface rubbing to the apex of the medallion and the band. There are a few minuscule flakes that are practically unnoticeable to the naked eye, but no significant damage of any kind. The details of the cannon and wreath are perfect. The original gilt finish on the wreath is extremely well preserved; most of the grey finish along the edge of the shield is intact. Most of the original silver plating on the reverse is present. The black tar-like substance on the reverse around the screw post was applied by the original manufacturer, not a sign of repair. The screw post is of full length, nearly 13 mm, and comes with original screw plate maker-marked "Pobeda Factory, Moscow".
