Order of the Badge of Honor, Type 3, Variation 3, #163714, circa early 1950s.

Silver gilt, enamels; measures 50.7 mm in height (incl. the eyelet); 33.5 mm in width; weighs 36.5 g not including the suspension and connecting link. This very uncommon "flat back" version features more "adult-like" proportions of the male and female workers' bodies and heads, same as on the later "hollow back" issues. Note also that the man's shirt has a rounded neck opening rather than square one like on all the earlier "flat backs". According to the classification, this is Type 3 Var. 5 Sub- var. 2, with the currently known serial number range of less than 10 thousand issues, 160094 through 169458.

In excellent condition. The enamel is essentially perfect, free of any wear visible to the naked eye. There are couple of microscopic flakes at the upper tip of the star, but they are not easy to find even with a 10x loupe. The raised details are likewise pristine, have only a couple of dings invisible without magnification. Very attractive patina to silver on the reverse. Comes on original suspension, a post- war two-layer version in steel with integral catch of the pin. The old, possibly original ribbon is perfectly preserved and clean. The connecting link appears to be original and its ends are still joined with solder.
