Lenin portrait by Soviet artist P V Vasilev, done in 1967 in pencil or Conté crayons.
19 3/8" x 26 3/8". High quality print made in 1990 on heavy, glossy art paper.
Excellent Condition.
Part of the Cold War campaign to make Lenin appear friendly if not actually quite benevolent. Dated 1967. this is probably an image originally done in the lead up to the huge 1970 Lenin Centenary celebrations. This portrait undoubtedly found favor with the Party hierarchy and was reused many times.
While there were a few early portraits of Lenin that were designed to make him appear grandfatherly to young children, it was not until after World War 2 that Soviet artists began to give his likeness an almost Hollywood look.
