Two Russian Soldiers c 1900 Wearing Large Civilian Watch Chains in Lieu of Actual Regimental Jettons.
Measures 2 5/8" by 4 1/8". T. Chodzko studio in Lomza ( 90 miles from Warsaw in Russian Poland). Shoulder strap being worn bears a large number 4". Both men are wearing large civilian watch chains tucked into the flaps of their uniform coats. The soldier on the left has a large fob on his that looks like a boy on a high-wheeler bicycle while the soldier on the right appears to be wearing a fob that appears like a lion holding a shield. The studio name is imprinted at the base of the right hand portrait. The artwork on the reverse repeats the photographer's name and city location.
Very good condition. A considerable amount of surface dirt on the obverse and the reverse shows that the photo has been pasted into at least two different photo albums. The faces of the soldiers, though, are sharp and clear as are the chains and fobs they have used to try to dress up their uniforms for their portrait photo.
