In the Soviet Union, students of medical and polytechnical colleges or university faculties had to finish a mandatory course of military preparedness. The course usually ended in a 2-month-long summertime officer bootcamp. Those camps were required to graduate the college with the rank of Reserve Lieutenant, as was the case with Ina Okman.
