Nikolai Andreyev (1921 - 2000) earned the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his actions on 6 August 1942 during the Battle of Stalingrad. He was the first to reach the enemy position, only to be met with a column of twenty enemy tanks. Leveraging the surprise effect of his sudden appearance, Andreyev on his T-34, and two more tanks of his squad, rushed the column, positioned their three tanks along its length, and proceeded to shoot the enemy tanks from their 76.2 mm main guns. In this fight, his tank destroyed five tanks, damaged two more, and destroyed two cannons. Andreyev's tank was damaged but the crew was able to fix the problem. Andreyev got a contusion.

His active military service continued until 1988 when Lt. Gen. Nikolai Andreyev retired from his last post of Chief of the 4th Directorate of Human Resources of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR. After his death, a memorial plaque was erected on the house where he lived in Moscow.
