Japan, Order of the Golden Kite, 6th class, in issue box, 1890s-1947 issue.

Gold-plated silver with two sword hilts in silver. The design repeats the center part of the higher classes but is in low relief and without enamels. The reverse is flat and plain. The order comes with a two-fold ribbon which appears to be original. Measures 56.4 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 43 mm in width. Comes with a black lacquered wooden presentation box with a velvet pad for the order. The top of the box is decorated with an inscription in calligraphy, written on a strip of paper.

The Order of the Golden Kite was established by Imperial Prescript of February 12, 1890. It was bestowed upon persons who had rendered distinguished military service, and was awarded only to Japanese. It also carried an annuity in different amounts, depending on the class. The annuity ranged from 1,500 yen for the 1st class to 150 yen for the 7th class. The order was abolished by Government Ordinance in 1947.
