Lot of three items, includes a photo of pvt. Ivan Ilyuk, the Killed in Action notice to his mother, and a letter from the Soviet Red Cross which accompanied a photo of Ivan Ilyuk's final place of burial.

1. The photo shows pvt. Ivan Ilyuk in field uniform. The handwritten inscription in pencil on the verso confirms his name and provides the year of his birth, 1926. He was killed not even twenty years old. The photo is not in very sharp focus but is well-preserved, showing no significant wear visible to the naked eye.

2. The KIA notice, dated 10 April 1945, is addressed to Polina Ilyuk, mother of Ivan. It states that Private Ivan Ilyuk (Иван Сергеевич Иьлю

2. The KIA notice, dated 10 April 1945, is addressed to Polina Ilyuk, mother of Ivan. It states that Private Ivan Ilyuk (Иван Сергеевич Иьлюк), was killed in action on 12 March 1945 and died with honor fighting for his Socialist Motherland. He was buried with military honors in the village of Alt Drewitz (then a small village near Potsdam, Germany). The notice is signed by the Slovechansky district military commissar, and bears the seal of the commissariat.

The notice is in very good condition, showing just minuscule wear to the edges of the paper and a faint stain near the left edge. The fold lines are still holding but could probably benefit from a reinforcement by tape on the verso.

3. The letter from the Executive Committee of the Soviet Red Cross and Red Crescent Society is dated 28 November 1990. It was sent to the fallen soldier's mother accompanying a photo of her son's final place of burial in the city of Chojna in Poland, not far from the border with Germany. The photo had been taken by the Polish Red Cross and mailed to the Soviet Red Cross to be forwarded to the mother of the fallen soldier.

The letter is in very good condition, showing minor wrinkles and a vertical fold line which is slightly frayed and has a short tear in the middle.

This lot will make a powerful addition to a collection of WW2 memorabilia to remind of the immeasurable sacrifices made, and to bring one's attention to the long-lasting ripples of the war, giving a fallen hero's mother final closure forty-five years after she had lost him in a foreign land.

Please note that the pen in our photo is for size reference.
