Photo of Two Soviet Aviators Near a U-2 (PO-2) Biplane, circa 1940s.

4 ¾" x 3 ½", printed on thin glossy photo paper. In the photo we see two aviators standing in an airfield near a U-2 biplane which has two other aviators in its cabin. The U-2 was a small single-engine biplane created in 1927 by Nikolai Polikarpov, one of the founders of the Soviet school of airplane building. In 1944 it was renamed PO-2 in honor of its then deceased creator. The plane was used in a wide variety of capacities and earned most of its glory during WW2 when it was used for reconnaissance, night-time bombing and communication. The plane continued to be built until 1953, and was one of the most mass-made airplanes in the world, counting about 33,000 over the years of its production.
