Cabinet Photo of an Imperial Army EM in odd attire, circa 1900s-10s.

4 ¼" x 6 ¼" total, the image size is 3 ½" x 4 ½", printed on semi-glossy photo paper and professionally mounted on a cardboard backing "frame". Uncommonly, the backing bears none of the usual information identifying the photo studio or anything else. Even more uncommon is the man's attire: regulation visor hat of a soldier of the Russian Imperial Army, a civilian long overcoat which looks more like a winter dressing gown than an overcoat. And, difficult to see more clearly under the hem of the overcoat, what looks like warm house slippers worn on bare feet! Our best guess is, a convales

Our best guess is, a convalescing soldier wearing hospital gown and slippers who went out for some fresh air and stopped by in the photo studio next door.

In very good condition. The emulsion shows minuscule chips along the edges and a few tiny scuffs, mostly on or near the overcoat. Some stains become noticeable when the photo is tilted to reflect a bright light, but those are practically invisible when looking at the photo at a normal viewing angle.

Quite an enigmatic moment frozen in time on this photo! A fine memento of the intricacy of life, and a fine addition to a collection of Imperial Russia memorabilia.

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
