Soldier's Letter from the Front, 19 April 1943.

Written on a special-issue military stationary featuring a motivational graphic showing three legendary Russian military leaders of old - Alexander Nevsky, Mikhail Kutuzov, and Alexander Suvorov - guiding and inspiring an attack of the Red Army. The slogan in red under the image reads "Warriors of the Red Army! Stand for the Motherland as Suvorov, Kutuzov, and Alexander Nevsky did!" Under that, there is a quote by Lenin: "To be victorious requires the greatest struggle, requires iron military-level discipline."

On top of the address side of the obverse, the word "ВОИНСКОЕ" ("Military") signifies that it is mailed postage-free. The verso has the stamp of a military censor whereas the obverse shows two postal cancellation stamps. The cancellation postal stamp at the destination (Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia), is dated 30 May 1943, more than a month after the letter was written.

In very good condition, showing mild fraying to the top edge where the letter was unsealed, not reaching the graphics or the handwritten text of the letter. The fold line shows beginning separations at both ends, not reaching the text and easily repairable with acid-free tape. The wear is not too intrusive to the eye and not very detractive. The ink of the handwritten text of the letter, in Georgian, is bright and not faded. The red dye of the printed text has seeped through the paper but does not obscure the text of the letter.

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
