Citizens of Ukraine, June 1943 Soviet propaganda leaflet for German-occupied Ukrainian territories.

Single page 8 ¼" x 11 ½", front only. Published by the regional committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine of an unspecified region. Ukrainian text. The content of the appeal is what you would expect: spotlighting the lies of German propaganda with its promises of land, work, and religious freedom for the Ukrainian people; lamenting hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians captured by the Nazis and used as slave labor, etc., etc.

All that is to be expected in a leaflet like this. What stands out is the subtle play on the Ukrainians' nationalist feeling and inclination, very strong in Ukraine at the time. The text is in Ukrainian, the header appeals to "citizens of Ukraine", and there are only two instances of using the word "Радяньска" (Soviet). Kudos to commissars who knew when to soft-pedal and what to massage!

In good to very good condition. The paper is mildly wrinkled and age-toned, and has a grayish tint similar to Nazi propaganda leaflets of the time. Possibly, this leaflet was printed using German equipment. The edges show minimal fraying and creasing at the corners. The red ink blot on the verso has partially soaked through the paper and is visible on the obverse. There is a diagonal crease by the lower left-hand corner that can be easily ironed out. Overall, the document presents quite well. Except for the ink blot, the wear does not affect the text which is bright, clear and perfectly legible.

Please note that the pen in our photo is for size reference.
