An uncommon version in blue satin with red borders and red cotton backing, featuring a depiction of the Druzhinnik badge in color. Measures approx. 4½ " x 9½" not including the ties. This armband is very different from the all-red later version with a simple inscription "Druzhinnik".

Excellent condition, free of noticeable stains or soiling. The satin exterior shows almost no wear with the exception of a few tiny pinholes, possibly from attaching the badge for storage, as was customary. The colors are bright, not faded.

These armbands were worn by civilian "volunteers" who helped the uniformed police, mostly for nighttime patrolling of public places, picking up drunks from the streets, and raiding "speculators" at flea markets. Although ostensibly a volunteer activity, many workers and college students were required to do occasional stints as Druzhinnik by their respective trade union and Communist Youth organizations. Armbands were usually issued temporarily, to be returned after the assignment and reused the next day by a different Druzhinnik. Unlike the all-red later version, the early version of the Druzhinnik armband is quite scarce.
