In brass; 32.1 mm wide; weighs 16.5 g not including the suspension and connecting link. The rounded eyelet and the main portion of the medallion are struck as a single piece.
In excellent condition. The raised details are prefect and crisp. There are a few miniscule dings to the raised edge, nearly unnoticeable. The gilt finish is very bright and practically pristine throughout, free of tarnish or oxidation spots. Comes on a late Soviet era aluminum suspension with a well-preserved old ribbon which is possibly original to the medal. The connecting link appears to be of the p

This medal is one of the post-war issues that were typically awarded by a Voenkomat (Military Commissariat) at the veteran's place of
residence. The reasons for the late issue could vary, but in most instances, the "Voenkomat" medals were "catch-up" awards to people who took
part in the battle and then somehow got overlooked by the awarding authorities during WW2 and in the immediate post-war years. From our
experience, Variation 2 "Voenkomat" issues of the Stalingrad Medal are much more scarce than the WW2 Variation 1.
