Medal for Service in State Security ("KhAD Medal"), 1987- 1992.

Brass, "cold" enamels, lacquer; 32.0 mm wide. Features dark blue and red lacquer in the shield. Nice quality, typical of Soviet Mint manufacture.

Excellent, near mint condition. The enamel is perfect. The gilt finish is nearly pristine, with just a barely noticeable amount of light tarnish, no blemishes or significant wear. The ribbon is replaced with the generic ribbon of red, black and green stripes, as this medal was almost invariably worn by its recipients. The ribbon shows minimal wear only, still nice and clean. This medal is often referred to as "Afghan KGB

The earlier acronym of this organization was KhAD, for Khadamat-e Ettel'at-e Dawlati or "State Information Services".
