Aleksey Denisov (1918 - 2012, enlisted in RKKA since 1938) earned the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his actions on 28 September 1943 during a forced crossing of the Dnieper between the village of Glushets and the Voskresenskoye Lake, when he, leading an assault team, crossed the river and secured a bridgehead, thus providing support for successful crossing of the river for his regiment. Denisov was wounded but continued fighting.
