A sheet of paper was folded a certain way to form a right triangle. There was no cover and no sealing so that censors could easily open and then re-close it.

In very good condition. The paper is thin and pulpy, mildly frayed and soiled on the outer sides of the triangle, but still quite pliable; the fold lines do not show any significant wear. The postal cancellation stamp and the military censor's stamp are quite legible, and so is the text, written in lead pencil.

The letter is written by a soldier to his family who lived in a rural area of the Kursk Region.

Officially, 2 September is celebrated as the day of liberation of the Kursk Region from the German invaders. However, most of the region had been liberated during the Red Army offensive in winter-spring of 1943. The western part of the region remained under German occupation until the troops of the 240th Rifle Division liberated Tyotkino, the last occupied locality, on 2 September. So, by April 1944, normal postal service had resumed.
