Majolica Floor Vase with Stalingrad Landmarks Artwork, by Volgograd Ceramics Factory, 1974- mid-80s.

Very large, standing almost 18" tall, oval in cross section approx. 7 x 4". Weighs over 4 lbs. One side has a bas-relief of the monument to the Battle of Stalingrad "The Motherland Calls" with the star of the Hero of the Soviet Union over it, and the name of the city, "Volgograd" below, under the waves of the Volga. The other side features several other famous landmarks of the city, and a small relief of a hydrofoil ship. Maker marked on the bottom. This version of the Volgograd Ceramics Factory was in use from 1974 to mid-1980s (fig. # 103 in Volume One of Marks on Soviet Porcelain,

In very good to excellent condition. There is a small repaired chip to the glaze on the pedestal of the monument, and a tiny other chip at the very bottom of the vase on the same side. Both of them lose themselves in the very large size of the vase.
