Group of High Ranking Air Force Officers and Generals with a Marshal of the Soviet Union on an Airfield near a Li-2 Airplane, circa late 1940s.

Rather large format measuring 9 ¼" x 7", printed on thin glossy photo paper. On the photo is a group of high-ranking Soviet Air Force officers and generals, with a three-star general in the center, facing a Marshal of the Soviet Union who is standing with his back to the camera. A large luxury car, presumably the one the Marshal arrived in, is behind the group. And further in the background is a Li-2 transport airplane, a lend-lease licensed version of Douglas DC-3 manufactured in the Soviet Union.

A most unexpected stamp graces the verso of the photo. It is a goods-received stamp

It is a goods-received stamp, which is rather inexplicable in itself on a photo like this, but the graphic of a merchant caravan featuring a horse, a camel, an elephant, and a few human carriers marching against the background of a mountain range makes it a delightful enigma and a challenge to unravel.

In very good to excellent condition. The photo is a little overexposed giving it a nice sepia tone; the focus is reasonably sharp for an amateur snapshot. There are two small scratches to the emulsion, only one of which is visible on the tunic of the 3-star general, and a couple of tiny contact points, not reaching through the emulsion to the paper underneath. The paper is slightly wrinkled, the corner bumps are minimal. All the wear is not too intrusive to the eye. Most of it can be noticed only when tilting the photo to reflect a bright light, but remains practically invisible when looking at it at a normal viewing angle.

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
