Medallion is in silver and enamel; measures 35.7 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 32.2 mm in width, weighs 23.6 g not including the suspension and connecting link. Originally, this medal was issued on a small Type 1 rectangular suspension, but almost all of those were discarded and replaced for the five-sided suspensions after the 1943 change in Soviet regulations.

In excellent condition, outstanding for this pre-WW2 Soviet award. The enamel is exceptionally well-preserved and shows a magnificent luster; it is completely free of any wear visible to the naked eye, having only a few microscopic contact marks that are barely noticeable even under a 10x loupe.

The medallion is likewise free of significant wear. There are only a few tiny dings to the reverse and at the edges, mostly invisible without magnification. The details of the artwork are extremely well-preserved and crisp, including the grass under the soldier's feet. The toning to silver is uniform and attractive throughout. Some of the original gilt finish on the numeral "XX" is still visible, which is quite uncommon for this medal.

The medal comes on a WW2 era suspension device, a two-layer model in steel with a self-locking pin. The old, possibly original ribbon is perfectly clean and sound. To summarize, this is a truly superb example of the first Soviet award medal!
