The case is in excellent condition as well, showing just a tiny shallow scuff to the lacquer on the right side. The lacquer is vibrantly shiny, the gold-plated kanji on the lid is pristine, the hinge is strong and tight, and the latch is in perfect working order.

The Order of the Sacred Treasure was founded by Emperor Meiji's edict of 1 January 1888 to be bestowed upon persons who had rendered distinguished service to the state. It was awarded to the military and civilians, and in May 1919 was extended to women. However, just a few of them were awarded to women, especially in the higher classes.
