The handwritten military archival entry on the verso identifies the officer as Guards Captain Alexey Ivashov (Алексей Алексеевич Ивашов), and bears the seal and hand signature of the Chief of Staff of the 196th Guards Transport Airborne Regiment. Dated 25 October 1950. At the time, the regiment specialized in, and trained for, long distance delivery of troops and materiel. Stalin's expanded post-WW2 empire was in need of instruments of controlling it. With rapid deployment capabilities.

The photo is in excellent condition. The emulsion is unbroken and unblemished. The corner bumps are all but absent. The image is in sharp enough focus providing a nice opportunity to examine the decorations.
