Photo of Three Air Force Mechanics on an Airfield near Kursk, 1943.

Measures 5" x 7", printed on thin glossy photo paper. The photo presents a group of three Soviet Air Force mechanics during a break, smoking Russian cigarettes "Ekstra". Their names, and other information identifying the mechanics, their military unit, location of the airdrome, and the year the photo was taken are handwritten on the verso in pencil. The inscription reads "Group of aviation mechanics of the 47th special recon squadron, 16th Airborne Army, the Central Front. Left to right: Mikhail Mindalyov, Anatoliy Leshchenko, Boris Klimchevskiy, secretary of the squadron's Komsomol bur

In excellent condition. The image is in sharp focus, providing an excellent opportunity to view the details of the winter field uniforms, ushanka hats (note that the ushanka of the Komsomol secretary is of higher quality than the rest of the group), padded winter pants, and kirza boots. The emultion is unbroken, showing just a few pressure points from the pencil inscription on the verso and a fingerprint at the lower right-hand corner, not too obvious or detractive, and visible mostly only when tilting the photo to reflect a bright light.

A curious detail: the Ekstra brand of Russian cigarettes (half-filled with tobacco, with a long cardboard mouthpiece) appears to be quite an obscure one. Our online search did not yield anything packaged like what we see in this photo.

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
