Letter to the wife of a WW2 officer notifying that her husband was killed in action, February 1944.

Written on a special military-issue stationary featuring inspirational graphics and a quote from Stalin, saying "The past year has shown that the Red Army can advance in summer just as well as it can advance in winter."

The letter is addressed to Elizaveta Kolesnik, and was written by, presumably, an officer serving under her husband's command. The letter is addressed to Elizaveta Kolesnik, and was written by, presumably, an officer serving under her husband's command. He expressed his grief at the loss of his commanding officer and promised to avenge his death.

In fair to good condition. The paper shows moderate soiling; the fold lines are rather worn and show partial separations, a small part of the paper is missing, affecting the text of the letter but not obscuring the meaning of the message. The penmanship is outstanding, making the text perfectly legible. The address side of the letter shows two postal cancellation stamps and the stamp of a military censor.

Please note that the medal in our photo is for size reference.
