Issued to Vasiliy Vasilyev (Василий Петрович Васильев), member of the Soviet of the Union, the upper chamber of the Supreme Soviet (legislature) of the USSR. He was elected to the 10th Convocation of the Supreme Soviet from the Sovetskiy District of the city of Volgograd (formerly known as Stalingrad).

The set consists of Two (2) Badges in gold-plated silver and enamels, both of trademark, fabulous quality. Raised Moscow mintmark "MMD" to the reverse. One of the badges is pin back construction, provided for convenience to wear on non-military clothing; the other is a screw back, as regulated for a military uniform. Starting from some point in the 60s or 70s, all Supreme Soviet members received one badge of each type to fit any occasion. The badges show engraved serial number 133 matching the number in the document, preceded by the Roman numeral "X" for the number of the convocation.

Both badges are in excellent condition, free of flaking or other damage and having only some microscopic contact marks; the pin back badge shows a bit more evidence of wear while the screw back was probably never worn. The enamel retains a beautiful luster and the gilt finish is fully preserved on both. The screw back badge has a full-length screw post measuring nearly 9.5 mm and includes the original screw nut in gilded silver.

The 1979 issue Membership ID is bound in fine quality burgundy leather. The front cover shows a gold impression of the Soviet state emblem and inscription "Supreme Soviet of USSR, the Soviet of the Union". The document contains a photo of the recipient and, on the opposite page, the serial number matching the serial number of the badges. The document has facsimile signatures of Leonid Brezhnev, the Soviet premier, and Mikhail Georgadze, the secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet.

The document is in excellent condition. The patent leather retains a beautiful gloss; the binding is perfectly tight, the gold inscription and Soviet state seal on the front are well-preserved. The interior is likewise perfectly preserved.

The Case of Issue is of similarly beautiful quality. Covered in blue leatherette, with a gold impression of the Supreme Soviet building, a part of the Moscow Kremlin complex. Inside cover is padded with moiré silk, with an imprinted image of the inner sanctum of the Kremlin as viewed from behind the Spassky Clock Tower. Fitted "nests" for the badges are lined in red velvet and accommodate the different attachments on the reverses.

The case is in excellent condition. The exterior shows no wear and only a tiny amount of soiling that may clean off. The silk lining with the image of the Kremlin has some small reddish spots that are not detractive; the interior of the box is otherwise practically pristine.

A very uncommon and important set that belonged to a member of the top Soviet legislative government.
