Medal for Victory over Japan, Variation 1, circa 1945-46.

In brass; 32.4 mm wide; weighs 17.7 g not including the suspension and connecting link. Features a separate eyelet soldered to the medallion.

In excellent condition. The medallion is completely free of wear visible to the naked eye and has only a relatively few microscopic contact marks that could be found under a 10x magnification.

The raised details of Stalin's bas-relief are perfect and exceptionally crisp. The original "gilt" mint luster is visible in recessed areas on both sides; the toning is uniform and attractive with only a couple of small and very faint blemishes.

Comes on an original suspension device, a WW2 two-layer model in steel. The perfectly clean ribbon is relatively recent, although it shows evidence of wear. Overall, an outstanding example of the early version of the Victory over Japan Medal.
