The medal is in outstanding, excellent condition. The medallion shows practically no wear, only some minuscule contact marks that are practically unnoticeable to the naked eye. The raised details are perfect and exceptionally crisp. The original "gilt finish" (mint luster) is clearly visible in recessed areas on both sides and is especially well-preserved and bright on the obverse. The medal is completely free of blemishes or significant tarnish.

The medal comes on an original suspension device, a WW2 two-layer model in steel with self-locking pin. The connecting link appears to be original, and its ends are still joined with solder. The old, possibly original ribbon is very well preserved and attractive, although showing minor amount of soiling near the edges (in our opinion, it is far preferable to a brand-new ribbon; however, just in case the new owner prefers the latter, we've included a sufficient length of it on the side.)

To summarize, this is a an exceptionally nice example of the Variation 1 Defense of Moscow Medal - about as good as they come for a WW2 issue.
