Gold Medal of Labor Hero of DPRK, Type 2, Variation 6, circa 1950s-60s.

The medallion is in silver gilt and enamel; measures 37.8 mm in height including the eyelet, 33.4 mm in width; weighs 21.3 g not including the suspension and connecting link. Overall weight of the medal with the suspension and screw plate is 32.1 g.

In outstanding, excellent condition. The enamel is literally perfect, completely free of any traces of wear that could be found even with a 10x loupe. There are a few minuscule dings to the hoe and hammer emblem, but details of the emblem, star, and starburst are nicely preserved and crisp. The eyelet is slightly bent backward which is often the case, but it is still perfectly sound. The stippling and raised characters on the reverse of the medallion are pristine and perfect. The gilt finish is nicely preserved on both sides of the medallion and suspension.

The medal comes with its original and complete suspension device in gilded silver, with attractive old ribbon which probably was never replaced but remains immaculately clean and sound. The connecting link between the medallion and suspension appears to be original, and its ends are still joined with solder. Included is an original screw plate in gilded silver measuring 18.8-18.9 mm in width and weighing 3.1 g; it closely resembles screw plates for the Soviet Hero Stars although without the mint logo. The screw post is approx. 11 mm long measured from the rectangular back plate, and has not been reduced. Overall, a magnificently well-preserved example, practically impossible to upgrade.
