Order of Saint Vladimir, 2nd Class Neck Badge, circa 1810s-1820s.
In gold and enamels; measures 51.6 mm in height incl. eyelet, 46.7 mm in width; weighs 15.0 g not including the connecting loop; overall weight with the loop is 15.7 g. Features very large, 23.3 mm wide center medallion typical for 1810s-20s issues. The overall quality is also very characteristic of its time, in particular the beautiful orange-red enamel on the arms and the style of the inscription on the reverse.

In very fine overall condition. The enamel on the obverse is literally perfect, showing brilliant luster and completely free of even the microscopic contact marks that could be found with a 10x loupe. On the reverse, there is a chip on the lower portion of the center medallion. The larger portion of the medallion however remains intact and sound, whereas the enamel on the arms is in the same pristine condition as on the obverse. The edges of the center medallion and arms are completely free of detectable wear. The connecting loop in unmarked gold appears to be of the period.
This magnificent piece dates to the period during or immediately after the Napoleonic Wars and has a very high chance of having belonged to a
high-ranking hero of the Patriotic War of 1812. To remind, Russian decorations for military officers and civilians looked the same at the
time, before the introduction of the swords for combat decorations in 1855. Although we conservatively identify this piece as the 2nd class
Neck Badge, the award may be considered the 1st class Sash Badge as the two were typically of equal size in the early decades of the XIX C.
