Honorary Badge of the Nauka ("Science") Sports Club, 1949 issue.
Brass, enamels; the pendant measures 21.6 x 10.3 mm; overall height with suspension is approx. 30 mm. This piece is of very high quality despite its miniature size.
Excellent condition. There is a single tiny imperfection under the "9" which appears to be a factory flaw; the enamel is otherwise perfect and shows beautiful luster. The screw post is of full or near full length, over 6 mm. The unmarked screw plate appears to be from the period, fits perfectly and is probably original to the badge.

The DSO ("Volunteer Sports Society") Nauka was organized in 1936. Initially, it was the sports club of scientists and faculty / staff of the Soviet higher education institutes and universities. During the reorganization of 1957, it was absorbed into a much larger Burevestnik ("Petrel") sports club of college students; at that point, the latter also included the Molniya ("Lightning"), DSO of the trade union of communication industry.
