These armbands were worn by civilian "volunteers" who helped the uniformed police, mostly for nighttime patrolling of public places, picking up drunks from the streets, and raiding "speculators" at flea markets. Although ostensibly a volunteer activity, many workers and college students were required to do occasional stints as Druzhinnik by their respective trade union and Communist Youth organizations. Armbands were usually issued temporarily, to be returned after the assignment and reused the next day by a different Druzhinnik. Original unissued pieces in mint condition are hard to find.

Please note: the white shirt and "Druzhinnik" Voluntary Police Badge in our photo is not included with the armband.
