On the background is the outline of the USSR Far Eastern coastline with Kamchatka Peninsula and Magadan area - regions where forced labor camps proliferated during the Stalin's era and continued to operate afterward. The Dalstroy badge is one of the only Soviet labor awards that explicitly state their NKVD (i.e. GULAG) origin. The bronze version of the badge was awarded starting in 1941. This is a relatively early example with better enamel quality than some later specimens we've observed.

In excellent condition. The enamel is practically perfect, with only microscopic flaking along the edges of the plaque - completely unnoticeable without magnification. The raised details of the construction site etc. in the center are very crisp; there is only minor amount of wear to the fight border with the "GUSDS" writing which is nevertheless well defined and completely legible. Some of the original silver finish is clearly visible in recessed areas. The silver finish on the reverse is practically perfect. The screw post is full length, over 12 mm. Includes original mint marked screw plate.
