Russian Empire, Cap Badge of an Officer of the Ministry of Railroad Transportation, circa 1890s - early 1900s.

In glazed porcelain; measures 35.5 x 26.4 mm. The double-headed eagle emblem is in raised profile. Trademarked "Привилегiя" ("Privilegiya") in raised lettering on the reverse.

In very good to excellent condition. The artwork and glaze are completely intact. There are some repaired hairlines near the outer edge on the left side (to the viewer), not affecting the integrity of the hat badge.

Porcelain cockades of this type started being offered near the turn of the century by private retailers as a more durable "high-end" alternative to the typical had badges in tin. Because of their high cost, relatively few porcelain cockades were made; just a tiny number of them survived to our day. Those for railroad officials - as opposed to the army and generic civil agencies - are especially rare.

Please note, the penny in our photo is for size reference.
