Belt Buckle for Army Enlisted Combat Engineers, circa 1890s-1917.

In Melchior (white metal alloy of mostly copper and nickel) with brass attachments, measures approx. 5.3 x 7.6 cm (2 1/8" x 3 1/8"). Features Romanov eagle and crossed axes.

In very good condition. There is moderate wear to the high points of the sculptured artwork; most details however are still very nicely defined. The upper edge has minor knocks smoothed over with age, but the buckle has kept its convex shape very well and is free of significant dents or scratches. Nice even patina creates very attractive overall appearance. This very scarce buckle certainly saw frontline service but no abuse!
