Photo ID of Nikolai Zakurinov (Николай Ионович Закуринов), Aviation Mechanic with the First Oranienbaum Naval Air Squadron, Military Baltic Fleet, circa 1918.
Measures 3 ½" x 5", in booklet format, made of two pieces of pink cardboard bound by cloth tape. The front cover is inscribed "RSFSR, Military Baltic Fleet". The inscription, as well as all the printed and handwritten text inside, are still using old-style orthography which became obsolete after the 1917 language reform. However, this was probably just due to typographical limitations. We know that the First Oranienbaum Naval Air Squadron was formed in 1918. The ID is signed by the squadron commissar, committee representative (not stated which committee), and the secretary.

Of special note are the seals The one on the left has the traditional anchor in the center, encircled by the inscription reading, unexpectedly without much regard for grammar, "Of the 1st Naval Air Oranienbaum Squadron". The seal on the right is the squadron commissar's personal seal. It has wings added to the anchor, and is encircled by "Commissar of the Oranienbaum Naval Air Squadron."
The term "Military" before "Baltic Fleet" is also noteworthy. We did not find any mention of these three words together, so it is possible that "Military Baltic Fleet" never was an official term.
In very good condition. The cardboard of the booklet shows moderate soiling along the edges; the binding tape has separated at the top but can be easily re-affixed with a little glue and patience. All the handwritten and printed text is bright, crisp, and perfectly legible. The ID photo is in excellent condition and in sharp focus, Zakurin's hand signature is clearly visible. The squadron commissar's seal stamped over the photo is a little blurry but still legible.
Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
