Both the center medallions are not ideally straight but turned counterclockwise, the reverse more than the obverse. Two of the wire embellishments between the arms of the cross, on the left when looking at the obverse, are slightly misshapen. The wear suggests a repair job done by an amateur.
The Order of the Crown of Italy was founded in 1868 by King Vittorio Emanuele II to commemorate the unification of Italy in 1861. It was
conferred on Italian and foreign citizens for extraordinary services to the kingdom of Italy, military or civilian. The order is now obsolete,
suppressed by law since the foundation of the Republic in 1946.
