The single medal of a Trade Union prize winner was established as a replacement for some dozens of similar medals issued during the preceding two years by individual trade unions of various Soviet industries. The prize was abolished in 1990, shortly before the collapse of the USSR. Therefore, even though the "unified" medal is far more common than those for specific industries, it is still rather scarce: its overall number of issues must be well below 11,000 based on the serial numbers we have observed to date.
